The First Floor

The first floor of the museum has many interactive elements that kids will enjoy. The Adventure Zone has a rock wall, side and water play, a climbing area, cloud simulator, interactive pulley systems and an Erie canal model. Next door is the “Under Construction” room with a focus on building careers.

Also on the first floor is Expedition Earth! Here you can spot a full-size mounted mastodon skeleton, explore a glacial ice cave, uncover bones in a dig site. Keep going and find a an exhibit of the environment we live in today with displays of taxidermy animals in our region. Take a step back in time to get a glimpse of the now-extinct living things that covered the planetโ€™s surface

The Second Floor

The Sound Bites gallery of the second floor allows participants to play with air and sound to create music. Continue on to grasp the movement on individual, institutional and Structural Racism and view native peoples’ artifacts.

The Third Floor

The third floor is home to a rotating featured exhibit! This is also the floor to head to for the Electricity Theater and Inventor Center. At the inventor center kids are challenged so solve a problem through creating something new!

A personal favorite is located right behind the Inventor Center – Rochester in 1,838 displays what our city looked like almost 200 years ago. A screen in front of the display shows the city we know today erecting through the years!

The Planetarium

The Planetarium is located right next door to the Science Museum. It is a short walk from one to the other. A variety of events and shows are available here, be sure to check the schedule before heading out! Star shows are free for members to attend! These shows consist of an expert pointing out the constellations and stars that can be seen in the current night sky. The star shows are often held at dusk so that you can practice your new star knowledge when you walk outside!
