Take Me There
At University Avenue the Merriman Street Playground has two brand new unique play structures which sit on a turf and mulch free surfaces! The first play structure is marked for ages 5 to 12 years old and has some really cool climbing features as well as a slide and a small modern merry go round. The smaller playground is perfect for toddlers with a small slide and climbing features that sit closer to the ground. (Opened October 2021)
The Art Walk
This is an urban art trail that can be seen from the road and sidewalks in the Neighborhood of the Arts. You can start at the playground and walk towards the Memorial Art Gallery. Here you will see a number of outdoor colorful pieces that line the streets. There is a map outlining all the artistic benches, sculptures, painted utility boxes and more. The Memorial Art Gallery (Outside)
A great spot for urban exploration and play! Park at the MAG to access these fun areas or walk to the new playground (about 1/4 mile walk on sidewalks). The large outdoor display is titled “Creation Myth” and children are welcome to explore and climb on the exhibit. There is also a free guided Art Walk! Here (near the parking lot on Goodman Street) you will find a sign with instructions to call a number for a narrated tour. You will need the number to text capabilities as you type in words found on the sidewalk. Kids may also enjoy climbing the stairs, walking through the tree covered path, and climbing on the other sculptures. Within the MAG, this is a walk which is stroller friendly until you get the stairs at the very end!
